" In addition, looking at the embedded JPEG previews from the camera is far from ideal due to the fact that JPEG images do not contain enough information to be able to judge underexposure and overexposure. Although Adobe updated Lightroom CC to be able to fetch embedded JPEG previews from RAW files for the sole purpose of speeding up image culling, the process is still painfully slow when going through many images." "As you might already know, Lightroom is extremely slow when it comes to image culling. It works well with Lr labels and ratings.īingo (applies to FRV not RawDigger which is intended for a difference purpose). That includes display of both over- and underexposure, display of contrast edges and fine detailed areas. Generating a preview from the raw is far quicker than what Lr can do.
#Fastrawviewer review pro#
I think the usefulness not so much depends on pro or hobbyist, but on the number of photos you want to review and the percentage you usually cull. I doubt I'd pay $15 for a RAW file viewer because photography is a hobby/passion of mine but I definitely can see why a pro under time constraint deadlines would pay mo I have NO idea if either of the programs discussed here do that. LR is NOT a great program for culling RAW files. I can see the value for some people of a fast dedicated RAW viewer that displays blown highlights.
#Fastrawviewer review free#
On occasion I use a free program Faststone image viewer to cull a large number of RAWs as it cycles through the RAW files faster than LR. Even scrolling between files can slow down as LR displays the preview. I often bracket my shots and annoyingly often I have to go in to the Develop mode to determine which shot has blown highlights. I find reviewing photos in LR in the Library mode can be annoying. Likewise, these people never create anything notable with any of this other gear either, but they sure get excited by just having, getting or talking to you about it. Younger ones play video games or engage in chat rooms and web surfing. They enjoy these toys just like their cameras for their own sake, but rarely if ever actually use them for the intended purposes. Many of them also play with audio equipment, computers or automobiles. Because they worry so much about measuring camera performance we have dubbed them "Measurbators." These people worry so much about trying to put numerical ratings on things that they are completely oblivious to the fact that cameras or test charts have nothing to do with the spirit of an image. Most seem to come from technical avocations, like engineering, computers and sciences. They are interested solely in equipment for its own sake. These folks have analysis paralysis and never accomplish anything.

Lacking souls they cannot express imagination or feeling, which is why their images, if they ever bother to make any, suck. These men (and they are all men) have no interest in art or photography because they have no souls. You still don't know the purpose of the applicationįrom what I see, it offers a wonderful opportunity for measurbators to waste more time - and nothing else. I'm still waiting for the detailed example of how this results in better photographs over a mainstream solution. Or even over modern in-camera histogram, zebra (exposure) and focus peaking indicators. I'm still waiting for the detailed example of how this results in better photographs over a mainstream solution like Lightroom, Capture One, DxO, ACDSee, etc.
#Fastrawviewer review software#
It's crap because it offers no discernible advantage over mainstream software - all it offers is additional, convoluted steps leading nowhere. I'm not 'hiding' behind anyone's back - it's not like I have been shy about expressing my position! Do tell where FRV is, as you called it many times in your rant, crap. He just moved on.īut don't hide behind someone's back. Or the most obvious reason: he decided this useless crap was something he did not want to deal with. That can mean the answer did not help and he gave up, or it helped and he was about as rude as you and did not bother to react. Look at the question, read the cryptic answer and then see how the poor guy asking the question says he will need time to ‘process the answer’: This is the type of ‘experience’ awaiting those normal folks who decide to explore this crappy software.
